Here’s a cool little USA Today article about places that let seniors stay in assisted living for short periods while their families vacation, or just rest:
Though this piece focuses on senior citizens and their caregivers, this concept goes for caregivers of other disabled folks too. Whether it’s a spouse, a family member, or anyone else, all caregivers don’t just deserve breaks. They need breaks, regularly. Folks who give enormous amounts of energy to care for somebody else need to replenish that energy often.
Honest to goodness–the best gift a caregiver can give her loved one is to take a two-week vacation each and every year, plus a couple of weekend getaways.
After all, how can I miss you if you won’t go away?
